Falcon girls soccer gets first win over champs

The Skyridge girls soccer team has taken some time to find offensive rhythm this season, but after five straight losses to open the year, the Falcons were able to earn an impressive win over the 6A defending champion on the road.
Aug. 14: Mountain View 3, Skyridge 2 (OT)
The Bruins got the early advantage with a goal during the initial period and added another after the break, but the Falcons fought back on the road to even the score before the end of regulation time.
Senior forward Cambri Condie scored both goals with assists from senior midfielder Bentley Knight and junior forward Mollie Lund.
Mountain View was able to find the target again during the first overtime to end the contest by golden goal.
Aug. 18: Davis 5, Skyridge 1
The Falcons didn’t fare any better than others against the undefeated, top-ranked Darts in an away match. Condie registered the lone goal for the visitors with a give from Knight.
Aug. 21: Skyridge 4, Syracuse 3
The Falcons finally broke into the win column in a thrilling way by beating the Titans on their home pitch. Syracuse upset No. 1 Lone Peak to win the 6A title last year.
Skyridge got on the board in the 14th minute when senior forward Lexi Blood converted on a give from Condie. The second goal came 10 minutes later off the foot of sophomore midfielder Lily Boren with the assist from senior forward Saffron Osmond. The Falcons were up 2-1 at the half.
The Titans responded after the break, knotting the tally with one goal and later finding the net again as a prelude to the dramatic finish.
With the help from Blood, Condie’s score in the 77th minute set up what looked like another overtime tiebreaker, but Boren found the target again in the 79th minute with an assist from sophomore defender Lydia Farnsworth and Skyridge was able to hold on for the satisfying victory.
“Our pre-season games have all been against quality teams,” said Coach Jhoan Alvizo. “We could see progress each game against good opposition, which made us feel hopeful about where we can be.
“Davis was a setback, but a lot of the problems in that game were our own making,” he continued. “We learned what we could from that and moved forward.
“It was great to finally see it all come together in the last preseason game. We are now looking at a good week of training and working on getting better to be ready for our first region game,” the coach concluded.
The Falcons have now completed their pre-league schedule. They will open Region 3 play on Tuesday (Sept. 1) at Lehi with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff, then host American Fork on Thursday (Sept. 3) at the same time.
