Summer to be full of art and music in Lehi

The Lehi Arts Center, 685 North Center Street, has packed the summer calendar with opportunities for kids to experience a real theater production, art classes for children and adults, and a weekly Sunday evening concert in the park.

“Summer is a great time for art classes and workshops. I know when I was raising my children, I liked to keep them active and learning and used to a routine,” said Jean Hatch, President of the Lehi City Arts Council.

There are two musical theatre workshops for kids at the Lehi Arts Center this summer; 101 Dalmatian Kids, for children ages five to nine, and Into the Woods Jr. for ages 9 to 15. The musical theater workshops take children through the entire process of participating in a real production, from auditioning to rehearsing, to putting on the show in front of an audience.

“The kids really learn how to work together – they become a team and a family. People are counting on them. They memorize lines, follow directions, and are on time. Those are skills they will use all their lives,” said Hatch.

The Lehi Arts Center is also offering art classes this summer, including Drawing Magical Creatures, Acrylics, Beginning and Intermediate Watercolor, and Hand Form Clay – Ceramics. Registration is available at www.lehiarts.com.

Starting on Sunday, June 16, there will be concerts at Wines Park, 100 East 600 North, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (See related story for dates and performers.) The big summer musical for Lehi Arts will be Mamma Mia! with performances starting August 1. Mamma Mia! auditions were held last week, and the cast will be rehearsing at the Arts Center through June and July.
