Mascot Bowl proceeds guarantees Christmas for local kids

For the twelfth year, the proceeds from the annual Mascot Bowl were used to provide a wonderful Christmas shopping spree for Lehi children. In September, the Skyridge High School Sports Marketing Team, under the direction of Becky White, planned and executed the annual Mascot Bowl.

Even though the weather did not want to cooperate, the event raised enough money to give $100 to 127 children to spend on Christmas gifts for themselves and their family.

On Saturday morning over 300 high school students from both Skyridge High School and Lehi High School showed up to participate in the annual Jazz Bear Shopping Day featuring “Bear” from the Utah Jazz and Santa Claus.

The students were paired up with the little children and were fed breakfast provided by Costa Vida.  Eleven buses filled with kids were then escorted to Walmart by the Lehi Police and Fire Department.  Magic filled the air as the children excitedly did their shopping.

One of the highlights of the event was when one high school student who as acting as a “shopping buddy” talked about how he loved Jazz Bear shopping because back when he was an elementary student, he was chosen to be one of the children who got to go shopping.  He remembered how he felt, the gifts he got and the gifts he was able to give that Christmas.

“It is amazing to see the turn out of high school students and the kindness that they show to these children. It is by far my favorite day of the year,” the shopping buddy said.
