Gertrude Joyce Morton Turner passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 3 in Lehi after an eight-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born in Lehi, Utah on June 6, 1931 to Lawrence James and Gertrude Fox Morton, the third of six children. She grew up in Lehi and shared many wonderful memories of fun times spent with friends and family. Joyce graduated from Lehi High School, where she met her devoted husband Wesley Karren Turner. They were married April 21, 1951 and later sealed in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

Joyce was a caring, supportive spouse and the most amazing mother and grandmother. She supported her children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren and all of their friends in everything they did until her health began to decline eight years ago. Most in town lovingly refer to her as “Grandma Turner.” She was compassionate and generous. She truly loved and served others. She held various jobs throughout her life. She was a dedicated, hardworking, employee. Her most recent was at the Legacy Center Food Court. She loved the people she met there, and they loved her.

Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served diligently in all auxiliaries and also served with her husband in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Joyce loved life and fun. Her laughter and love of a good party will be missed. She was very creative and enjoyed all types of handwork. Many have been the recipient of her beautiful, hand knit slippers.

The family thanks the many who helped care for her, most notably, Brio Hospice, Betty Jane, Caralee and Erin. Also, Abbington Memory Care and the staff there, especially Denise who was so loving, and caring to the entire family. The family would also like to thank family friend Jaynie, for the hours she spent loving and caring for Joyce.

Joyce is survived by her eternal companion Wesley, who was her devoted primary caregiver. A daughter, Taunya (Bert) Wilson, and son, Morton (Sherene) Turner and a son-in-law, Stewart Wilson (daughter, Jayne, deceased) 12 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and one on the way.
