The
Utah Food Bank and The United States Department of Agriculture is once again
offering free meals for children under 18 at three Lehi parks all summer. Food
trucks with prepared meals will be at the following locations each weekday
starting Monday, June 10, and ending on Friday, August 16:
- Margaret
Wines Park (600 N Center St) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Bandwagon
Park (900 N 300 W) from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Pilgrims
Landing Park (900 N 300 W) from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In
2018, the Utah Food Bank served 8,636 summer meals in Lehi. The Pilgrims
Landing location was added last year because a teacher in the area contacted
the President and CEO of the Utah Food Bank and told her kids were struggling
with hunger at her school. There are an estimated 29,490 children in Utah
County who are unsure where their next meal is coming from. Across the state,
one in seven Utah kids face hunger. The summer meals program is open to all
children 18 years of age and younger, and meals consist of a sandwich, a
vegetable, fruit, and milk. The food trucks do not have meals available to purchase
for adults.
“Utah Food Bank is
committed to helping children across the state enjoy a happy and healthy
summer. To make that happen, our Summer Feeding Program is incredibly important
and we are grateful for the community support that allows us to continue to
expand the program,” said Ginette Bott, President and CEO of the Utah Food
Bank.
