Lehi Police Department will host the annual Kids, Cops and Christmas fundraiser on Monday, December 5, 2016. The public is invited to join the department for dinner from 4-8 p.m. at Texas Roadhouse Grill in Lehi (1402 East Main Street), where officers will serve food, bake rolls and bus tables.
The fundraiser benefits Lehi children in need by providing funding for the Kids, Cops and Christmas program. Diners can present a donation to any of the officers during or after their meal.
Throughout the year officers identify families that may need additional assistance during the holidays. As part of Kids, Cops, and Christmas, children are selected to join officers for breakfast and shopping at Smith’s Marketplace. Then the children and officers return to the police station to wrap presents and visit with Santa Clause.
According to Lehi Police Chief Darren Paul, this is a positive experience for both the children and the officers. “What is most touching is when the children come with a list of presents for their siblings,” Chief Paul said. “Often officers will be so moved that they choose to donate some of their own money to provide gifts for the children,” he added.
Kids, Cops and Christmas is made possible by generous community donations and support from Smith’s and Texas Roadhouse. “It really is a community effort,” Chief Paul said.
Individuals who may not be able to attend the fundraiser but wish to donate may contact the police department at 385-201-1005.
