Summer Fundraising Events to Aid Lehi Family

Published

Four years ago Lehi resident Steve Bailey was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitripsin Deficiency,  which is often referred to as Alpha 1 and is a genetic form of COPD. Alpha 1 affects the lungs. Since his diagnosis Steve’s lung capacity has decreased to 25%, placing him in need of a double lung transplant. Steve was recently approved for the transplant and is now on the transplant list waiting for the lungs that will save his life.

Friends and family members of Steve and Merity Bailey have organized events over the summer months to help raise the needed funds, roughly estimated at $250,000.00, to cover the cost of the transplant, related hospital costs, and expensive anti-rejection drugs.

Events planned to help the Bailey Family include an online auction to be held in July, Pizza Pie Cafe will donate 25% of sales June 27th-30th at their Highland location with presentation of “fun-raiser” card or other documentation of Bailey family fundraiser (take your newspaper), and a 5K run is scheduled for September. There are also accounts set up on GoFundMe and YouCaring websites for those wishing to help the Bailey Family through online donations. Web addresses for donations are: https://www.gofundme.com/teamtevehttps://www.youcaring.com/steve-b-552201.

The Baileys are coping with this challenge through hope, positive attitudes, and humor. They are grateful for the help and support that they have received from friends, family, strangers, and healthcare providers, but are still in need of funds for future medical expenses.
